FAQ's about: BROKER EXAMS

What are the requirements for taking the California broker’s exam?

To become a real estate broker, you must:
  1. Complete 2 years of full-time employment as a licensed real estate salesperson (within the last 5 years), or complete 4 years of college.

A combination of full-time licensed employment and college can be used to meet this requirement, where each year of college completed equals 6 months of licensed full-time employment. For example, if you completed 2 years of college (counting as 12 months of employment), you would then only need an additional 12 months of full-time employment as a licensed real estate salesperson.
  2. Complete 8 statutory college-level courses required for the broker exam, including:
    • Real Estate Practice
    • Legal Aspects of Real Estate
    • Real Estate Finance
    • Real Estate Appraisal
    • Real Estate Economics or Accounting (if you take both, you only need 2 from courses below)
    And 3 courses from:
    • Real Estate Principles
    • Advanced Legal Aspects of Real Estate
    • Advanced Real Estate Appraisal
    • Business Law
    • Common Interest Developments
    • Computer Applications in Real Estate
    • Escrows
    • Mortgage Loan Brokering and Lending
    • Property Management
    • Real Estate Office Administration
